Chapter 698: Equipment Supremacy of a Pay-to-Win Player
Yun Cheng switched off his radio, a cold smile playing on his lips.
“Alright boys, that crew upstairs is about to come down. Get ready!”
The five Wanlong Society members nodded excitedly and began checking their gear.
“Boss Yun, how should we play this?” asked one black-clad man, eyes gleaming.
They’d all thought this was going to be a wild goose chase, but now they’d actually gotten their chance.
Yun Cheng pondered for a moment, then suddenly grinned.
“Didn’t you guys mention earlier? We’ll use that gaming approach.”
“Huh?” The group looked baffled.
“We were just joking around!”
“Boss Yun, you’re not serious, are you?”
Yun Cheng cut the chatter and laid out the tactics: “Listen up, we’re going in hard and fast. Flashbangs, smoke grenades, throw whatever you’ve got to create chaos.”
“Then, two of you flank left, two flank right, and I’ll suppress from the front.”
“Shoot anyone you see, don’t hesitate. With our gear, we’ll be fine as long as we’re careful. Charge in with confidence!”
“But one thing: try to take them alive. Don’t go for headshots like it’s a game. We need survivors to find out where that bastard Zhao Weixiang is hiding.”
The crew listened, somewhat stunned.
“Boss Yun, why does this tactic sound so familiar?”
“Well? I am, after all, the sniper god of Transport Ship.”
“…”
The group was speechless, yet somehow… the tactic didn’t seem half-bad?
With this much equipment advantage, they’d win no matter what.
So they’d just wing it!
The six men quickly moved into position.
Core member Hu Zi stayed on the fourth floor. He kicked over a discarded metal cabinet with a thunderous crash and shouted at the top of his lungs in the Dragon tongue: “Upstairs! You’re surrounded! Drop your weapons! Resist and be executed on the spot!”
Upstairs, sixth floor.
Razor and his eight men were startled by the sudden commotion.
“Someone’s downstairs!” a gang member shouted in panic.
“Motherfucker, it was an ambush!” Razor’s face darkened instantly.
“Sounds like Dragon Country folk. Could it be Liu Yutong’s people? How’d they find us?”
“Wasn’t some idiot just reporting our location over the radio? Should’ve shot him!”
“Boss, what do we do? Fight or flee?”
Razor’s eyes turned vicious. “Flee? Where to? They’re blocking us below. You want to jump? Take them out! The boss said no matter the cost!”
The moment he finished speaking—
Whiz!
A cylindrical object flew up from the stairwell landing, tumbling into the sixth-floor hallway.
“Grenade!” someone screamed.
Blast!
But it wasn’t an explosion. After the bang, a blinding white light erupted!
A flashbang!
“Argh! My eyes!”
“Fuck! I can’t see anything!”
Several of Razor’s men took the brunt of it, clutching their eyes and screaming, ears ringing, instantly losing both sight and hearing.
“Go!”
Yun Cheng waved his hand and charged out of the stairwell with two Wanlong Society members. Their tactical goggles protected them from the intense light, leaving them completely unaffected.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A hail of bullets struck three dazed gang members in the legs and torso, dropping them with screams of pain.
Razor reacted quickly, instinctively diving into a nearby room when the flashbang detonated. Though shaken, he managed to stay conscious.
Hearing footsteps approach, he raised his AK by feel and squeezed the trigger toward the doorway, spraying wildly whether anyone was there or not.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Yun Cheng pressed himself against the stairwell wall, signaled to his brothers, and then they threw everything they had—flashbangs, smoke grenades, frag grenades—toward wherever they sensed enemies.
Hiss~~~
Thick white smoke billowed out, filling the stairwell.
“Cough… what is this?”
“I can’t see anything!”
“Enemy attack! Enemy attack!”
Razor forced his eyes open, but his vision was blurred—just white smoke and faint, flickering shadows.
He was about to fire when several excited voices rang out from within the smoke.
“Fire in the hole!”
Followed by a jumble of shouts.
“Enemy spotted at B site!”
“I’ll hold A long!”
“Who’s man enough to snipe mid?”
“…”
Razor: “???”
What the fuck? Are they treating this like a game?
The next thirty seconds devolved into absolute chaos.
Though the Wanlong Society members lacked real combat experience, their gear gave them an overwhelming advantage. Heavy body armor absorbed bullets like they were nothing, and combined with their tactical helmets and goggles, they held absolute dominance in the chaos.
Razor’s men, by contrast, wore ordinary clothes—no decent body armor to speak of.
Not that their boss couldn’t get such equipment; in his eyes, his underlings’ lives were worth less than the armor itself.
If someone got killed, he’d just recruit another. In a place flooded with Truth, wannabe gangsters were never in short supply.
The result was a one-sided crushing by the pay-to-win players.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Several bullets struck a Wanlong Society member, sparking and leaving white marks.
The black-clad man who’d been hit was terrified at first, but once he realized he was fine, he grew brazen.
“Heh, guess it’s my turn now, pal?”
He fired back, and his opponent crumpled to his knees, instantly incapacitated.
The gang members’ eyes nearly popped out of their sockets at the sight.
“What kind of monsters are these?!”
They’d fought gang battles in the States before, seen plenty of tough guys, but never a fight where they were so outgunned. The enemy acted like bullets were raindrops—how the hell were they supposed to fight?!
“Boss, they’re wearing heavy body armor! Our bullets can’t penetrate!” a terrified underling shouted.
Only now did Razor get a clear look at the enemy’s gear—luxurious to the point of being blinding.
Full-coverage tactical helmets, Level IV heavy body armor with military-grade ceramic composite plates, rifles equipped with holographic sights, tactical flashlights, laser designators, and more…
This shit was fancier than police gear, nearly on par with special forces equipment.
“Fall back! Move!” Razor wasn’t stupid. This blatantly asymmetrical battle was suicide. He shouted and turned to run down the other side of the corridor.
But most of his men were already down, and the rest were pinned down by Wanlong Society. There was no escape.
Spotting the fleeing men, Yun Cheng pulled a flashbang from his tactical vest and hurled it through the doorway.
Though the distance was considerable, Yun Cheng could throw a beer bottle sixty or seventy meters with ease. The flashbang landed right near the fleeing men.
Bang!
Another flash of white light.
Yun Cheng and his men unleashed another volley while their opponents were reeling. After suppressing them with fire, he charged in, kicked the leader’s gun away, and pressed his muzzle to the man’s forehead.
“Don’t fucking move! Move and you die!”
Razor and his underlings stared down the black muzzles and could only surrender, hands on their heads.
From start to finish, the fight lasted less than two minutes.
Of the eight ambushers, five were wounded and incapacitated, one was killed, and only two remained unscathed—all now under control.
Yun Cheng crouched before Razor. “Where’s Zhao Weixiang?”
Razor looked up at their luxurious gear, feeling a bitter taste in his mouth.
“You… you’re really with Wanlong Society?”
Yun Cheng nodded. “Yes!”
Razor said, bitter yet envious, “Your boss treats you well.”
Indeed!
Just look at that gear. Who wouldn’t be loyal to such a boss?
“The Young Mistress treats us well, no doubt about it!”
Yun Cheng pressed again: “Where’s Zhao Weixiang? Tell me!”
Razor shook his head. “I don’t know where the boss is. He never tells us his location. He just gives orders, and we meet at a designated spot after completing the mission.”
“Where’s the meeting point?”
“In the basement of 147 Grant Street…”
Yun Cheng memorized the address, then instructed the others: “Clean up the scene, bind all the prisoners. Two of you stay and wait for the police. The rest come with me to Grant Street.”
