Chapter 535: Yaya!

Liu Yutong stood in place, watching the black sedans escort the ambulance away. Only then did she turn, preparing to get into her car and leave.

However, just as she reached the car door, a childish wail caught her attention.

“I want Daddy! Grandma, let me go! I want to find Daddy! Daddy’s lying there and he’s so cold…”

Liu Yutong’s footsteps paused as she looked toward the source of the voice.

Outside the police line not far away, a little girl with two crooked braids—who looked no older than four or five—was being held tightly by an older woman.

The little girl’s face was flushed crimson from crying, her beautiful eyes brimming with tears, her small hands constantly reaching toward the figure that had just been carried out from the driver’s seat and covered with a white sheet.

“Daddy! Daddy! Get up!”

“Daddy…”

The older woman holding the girl also had red-rimmed eyes. As she held the little girl firmly to prevent her from rushing forward, she choked back sobs and tried to comfort her: “Yaya, don’t cry, don’t cry… Daddy’s tired, he’s fallen asleep…”

“You’re lying! Daddy would never sleep on the ground! Daddy promised he’d bring me little cakes tonight! Daddy never lies to Yaya!” The little girl pounded the woman’s arms with her tiny fists, crying even harder.

“Daddy, get up! Yaya doesn’t want cakes anymore! Yaya wants Daddy! Daddy, please get up!”

“………..”

Each cry of “Daddy” in that childish voice pierced the hearts of every bystander present like a cold knife, Liu Yutong included.

Only then did she realize with sudden clarity that she wasn’t entirely blameless in this child’s father’s death.

After sending someone to inquire with the woman, she learned that the little girl now had no other immediate family—she was truly an orphan.

The woman was a neighbor who had brought the girl to see her father one last time after hearing about the accident.

When the girl’s father drove his taxi, he would usually leave her in the woman’s care. Her grandson was Yaya’s kindergarten classmate, and the two families had grown close because of the children. Plus, the woman had a kind heart and felt sorry for the father-daughter pair, so she would help pick up and drop off Yaya.

Now that Yaya’s father was gone, the child would either be sent to a welfare home or placed with a more distant relative like an uncle or aunt by marriage.

But according to the woman, Yaya’s relatives had never associated with them, avoiding them because they were poor and afraid of being burdened. They had long since kept their distance.

Yaya’s mother had died of cancer years ago, leaving behind massive debts that her father had only managed to pay off after many years of taxi driving.

Not long after, Yaya’s father was diagnosed with stomach cancer himself—reportedly caused by irregular eating and sleeping habits.

He had no intention of seeking treatment, only wanting to save as much money as possible in his remaining days so his daughter’s future wouldn’t be too difficult…

By this point in the report, the Wanlong Society member addressing Liu Yutong couldn’t hold back his tears any longer.

“Young Miss, that child’s life is truly too bitter!”

Liu Yutong listened, then turned her head away.

“Yun Cheng!”

“Here!”

“Anonymously give that child…”

Liu Yutong had been about to say she would donate money to ensure the child would never want for food or clothing, but she stopped herself.

Then she made a decision.

She walked directly up to the crying girl, the one even the officers couldn’t console.

Perhaps because of the cold, powerful aura she carried, the surrounding bystanders unconsciously lowered their voices.

Even the neighbor woman comforting Yaya noticed this exceptionally poised young woman approaching and grew nervous.

Mainly because of the group of men in black following behind her—it was rather intimidating.

Liu Yutong crouched down in front of the little girl, looking at her tear-stained face.

Yaya seemed to sense that this suddenly appearing beautiful sister was different. While she shrank back into the neighbor woman’s arms, her sobbing quieted somewhat.

Liu Yutong extended a hand and said gently, “Yaya, Daddy has gone to a faraway place and can’t come back to be with you for now. Are you willing to come with Big Sister?”

“Big Sister can take you to amusement parks, buy you lots and lots of dolls, and cake.”

Yaya gazed at her through tear-blurred eyes, her small lips quivering as she looked toward the ambulance again.

“Daddy…”

Liu Yutong wasn’t in a hurry. She kept her hand extended, waiting for the child to decide.

If the girl was willing to come with her, she would take her in. If not, she would fund her education through university.

Yaya looked once more at her father being loaded into the vehicle, then turned back to look at the gentle, beautiful sister before her. After a moment’s hesitation, she slowly lifted her small hand and placed it in Liu Yutong’s palm.

Liu Yutong smiled faintly and stood up, holding her hand.

“Yaya, let’s go.”

Before leaving, she looked once more toward the ambulance and quietly said, “Rest easy. Your princess has me now.”
