Chapter 512: Sudden Change in Situation!
“Boss, do you know that woman?” A green-haired lackey beside him couldn’t help but ask when he saw Liu Hao staring blankly at the beautiful woman not far away.
Liu Hao snapped out of it and nodded: “Know her? See that gorgeous woman up ahead? Her name is Liu Yutong, and she was my number one enemy back in Wushui County!”
When the lackeys heard their boss say this, their gossip-loving hearts burned brightly, and they all crowded around to ask questions.
“Boss, can you tell us about your past?”
“Yeah, boss, tell us. We haven’t heard about your glorious deeds yet.”
“……..”
Liu Hao’s expression turned awkward at their words. The past was truly unbearable to recall. There was no way he’d tell his lackeys in detail about how badly he’d been beaten up. But looking at their expectant faces, he couldn’t exactly refuse.
After thinking it over, he decided to embellish it just a tiny bit—just a little.
“Ahem…”
Liu Hao cleared his throat and struck a pose of reminiscing about past glories: “Since you want to hear it, your boss will tell you about my heroic deeds back in the day!”
“Back in the day, I was one of the top bosses on Internet Café Street in Wushui County. That Liu Yutong thought she was something special and tried to undermine me, poach my men. You tell me, could I let her get away with that crap?”
His gaze gradually became distant, as if he were truly lost in those blood-soaked memories.
“I remember that night, dark moon and fierce winds! Right on the river dam in Wushui County, she brought dozens of people to corner me. I was alone, but I didn’t back down! Holding a watermelon knife, I fought from one end of the dam to the other, then back again, without even blinking! It was a bloodbath!”
In reality, there were only about a dozen of them, and it was Liu Yutong’s smaller group that beat him and his lackeys to a pulp. But the way he told it now, he’d single-handedly taken down dozens of her men.
“I lost count of how many of her men I took down. My blade was completely dulled! In the end, it was that freakishly strong bodyguard of hers, plus they had numbers on their side and wore me down with a war of attrition. I was exhausted and had to make a strategic retreat.”
Liu Hao even put on a sorrowful expression: “Sigh! If they hadn’t been so dishonorable, ganging up on me and resorting to sneak attacks, how could I have possibly abandoned the territory and men I’d fought for?”
He deliberately concealed the fact that not only had he been beaten, but he’d also done time in the slammer, and his men were absorbed by her faction. Instead, he focused on his own bravery and their underhanded tactics.
Believe it or not, this story, seasoned with a teeny-tiny bit of truth, actually impressed his lackeys. So their Heaven’s Eye Gang boss used to be that badass!
And thinking about how dishonorable the other side had been, the lackeys grew indignant.
“Damn it! That’s straight-up bullying!”
“Our boss was so fierce back then, and they pulled a fast one on him!”
“So our boss has such a glorious yet tragic past!”
“A true man doesn’t let grudges go unavenged, boss!”
“Yeah! We gotta get revenge!”
“………”
Just as everyone was getting fired up, a tactless young punk spoke up at the worst possible moment: “Boss, you were so fierce back then, but when we were being chased by those South City folks today, how come you…”
The unspoken second half, “ran even faster than us,” hung in the air, but everyone understood the implication. Earlier today, their turf had been hit by a crew of nearly a hundred thugs, but the boss had run faster than a rabbit. That didn’t quite match the image of the tough guy who’d single-handedly taken down dozens.
Everyone immediately turned to Liu Hao, waiting to hear his explanation.
Liu Hao had already cursed this clueless lackey a thousand times in his head, but before he could come up with an excuse to cover his lie…
Right then, another lackey nicknamed Acong slapped his thigh, a look of sudden realization on his face.
“I know! I know the reason!”
Everyone was stunned: “What reason?”
Acong looked at Liu Hao and asked, “Boss! Did that bloody battle back then damage your… foundation?”
“Foundation?” The other lackeys didn’t immediately catch on.
“I mean… I mean a man’s root!”
“The boss fought dozens alone. In such a vicious battle, injuries were inevitable. It must have severely damaged his vital energy, his power isn’t what it used to be—he probably wounded his foundation.”
“I remember now, that makes sense. I recall when we first took over the arcade, several punk girls threw themselves at the boss, wanting to be our big sister-in-law, but the boss turned them all down. I was puzzled then—how could such a virile man be uninterested in women? Now I get it. The boss didn’t want to waste those girls’ time!”
With this perfectly logical explanation, all the lackeys were shocked. Their gazes toward Liu Hao instantly turned to sympathy, admiration, even reverence. So the boss was carrying all this burden. To avoid dragging others down, he’d rather bear it all alone.
“Boss, you’ve suffered so much!”
“Waaah, boss, we misjudged you!”
“The boss is a true man of honor and loyalty!”
“It’s all that demon woman’s fault, so fucking underhanded!”
“…….”
Liu Hao: “???”
What the hell?! How does it keep getting more ridiculous?! Since when did I damage my foundation? It’s simply because those punk girls were ugly as hell!
Liu Hao looked at his lackeys’ moved and worshipful gazes, and the explanation he’d been about to give died in his throat. He was afraid the more he explained, the worse it would get, and then he’d never be able to clear things up. But at least his heroic, fierce image was mostly intact, despite the flaw.
“Let’s not talk about the past anymore.”
The lackeys immediately nodded in unison: “We won’t mention it, we won’t mention it. We promise we won’t tell outsiders.”
Liu Hao: “All of you, watch your mouths.”
Everyone thumped their chests again: “Boss, don’t worry. We’re all tight-lipped.”
Liu Hao nodded in satisfaction, but the moment he turned around, several lackeys behind him secretly pulled out their phones and started texting.
“We don’t have to sneak around anymore. Our boss is… you know… not functional down there.”
“……”
Completely oblivious to the furtive movements behind him, Liu Hao looked at Liu Yutong again, his mind locked in fierce internal struggle. On one side was his masculine pride and past humiliation; on the other, the debt of gratitude for how she’d unintentionally helped him out last time.
Wouldn’t it be dishonorable to take advantage of her predicament now?
“Boss, this demon woman is so underhanded. We’ve got numbers on our side now—strike while she’s down! Let’s go teach them a lesson and avenge you!” one lackey said.
Liu Hao waved him off: “Hold your horses. Let’s see how things play out.”
He might be a scoundrel, but he had a clear sense of gratitude and grudges. When you owe someone a favor, you can’t just ignore it, right?
Most importantly, he wasn’t sure if that beast Yun Cheng was around. Based on his understanding of Yun Cheng, the guy would never be far from Liu Yutong under normal circumstances. He was probably lying in wait somewhere nearby.
Just as his internal struggle was scrunching the Heaven’s Eye on his forehead into a squint, another round of cursing and shouting came from the street corner.
Another crew had arrived!
