Chapter 491: Charity is a Sports Meet?“Move out!”

At Liu Yutong’s command, the convoy rolled out of South City like a steel dragon, charging toward BS Province under the cover of night.

The fleet pressed on day and night, stopping only for fuel and brief rest breaks.

Liu Yutong’s heart remained on edge. She had barely slept throughout the journey, and the closer they got to their destination, the heavier the pressure weighed on her. She could only pray silently that in this life, everything would be different.

Once they entered BS Province, mountain roads became increasingly common, forcing the convoy to slow its pace.

On a predawn morning near Bei C, the supply trucks and Liu Yutong’s vehicle pulled into a large service area for rest and resupply. Most of the other vehicles, including the buses carrying Wanlong Society members, had already left the highway to rest elsewhere, having traveled much faster than the cargo trucks. Only three or four sedans remained with the trucks to ensure the supplies encountered no problems along the way.

By now, after the continuous long-distance travel, both the truck drivers and Liu Yutong’s group were exhausted. They all climbed out of their vehicles at the service area to stretch their legs. Some headed for the restrooms, while others went to buy hot food. Though they had brought plenty of provisions, people still craved something hot deep down. Going too long without hot food always left them feeling like something was missing. Even a steaming cup of instant noodles could bring immense satisfaction.

Liu Yutong also got out and prepared herself a cup of instant noodles in the service area. The hall was rather deserted at this early hour. Aside from their group, there were hardly any other travelers.

Besides Liu Yutong, one member of Yunshan Society had come along.

Zhu Silin.

According to her, her father had been transferred to BS Province and promoted a rank. He was now the provincial governor. She had joined on a whim, wanting to visit her father while she was in the area.

Yunshan Society currently had seven members, each with deep family connections. Only Liu Yutong herself had no background whatsoever.

Zhu Silin sat down across from Liu Yutong with her cup of noodles. While waiting for them to cook, she couldn’t help but ask again:

“Big Sister Yutong, we’re almost in Bei C territory now. Can you tell me where exactly we’re going for this field training?”

“My dad’s here in the province, maybe he could help out.”

Liu Yutong could easily guess her thoughts. She was still curious about the real purpose of this trip, suspecting that the so-called training exercise was just a cover. And in fact, it was.

But during the journey, Liu Yutong had already devised a relatively perfect explanation to dispel their suspicions. She set down her fork, wiped her mouth, and put on an expression that said she really had no choice, then said:

“Silin, to be honest, what I’m doing might seem childish to you and Zhou Muchen and the others. But for me, it’s something I have to do.”

“Because you all have people covering for you. I don’t.”

“You may not know this, but many people out there want to destroy Wanlong Society. I just want to run legitimate businesses, yet people keep trying to cause us trouble.”

“That’s why I need to build a golden body for myself and for Wanlong Society.”

Zhu Silin: “A golden body?”

Liu Yutong didn’t spell it out completely: “I plan to establish a charity foundation later on. This operation is something of a trial run.”

Zhu Silin finally understood and thought to herself: “No wonder the Big Sister didn’t explain clearly. So this was her plan.”

Many successful people do charity work these days. Besides fulfilling that ancient saying about the successful helping the world, charity also brings many benefits. For instance, it can secure policy support and win favor with leaders… It was like adding an invisible layer of special protection.

At this thought, Zhu Silin suddenly felt ashamed. She had never considered doing charity herself, probably because she, like the others in Yunshan Society, never had to worry about background or connections.

The Big Sister was different from them. She was a self-made woman who had built Wanlong Society from scratch, making her a thorn in many people’s sides—or perhaps a valuable prize to be coveted. After all, wealth moves people’s hearts! Hadn’t Yunshan Society itself initially entertained such thoughts?

It made perfect sense that the Big Sister would want to gain some sense of security through charity and build a golden body for herself and Wanlong Society to prevent such things from happening again.

The more she thought about it, the more guilty Zhu Silin felt. Although it was Xue Chen who had initially proposed making a move on Wanlong Society, the rest of them had gone along with it.

She now finally understood why the Big Sister hadn’t told them the real reason. The root cause was their previous actions, which had left the Big Sister with lingering reservations.

Moreover, she guessed that the Big Sister hadn’t chosen BS Province for charity work on a whim. After all, BS Province was far too distant from Wanlong Society’s home base. There was no need to travel so far for charity. She must have come here specifically because of her, also to demonstrate to the other Yunshan Society members that she wanted to completely resolve the rift between them. That was why she hadn’t wanted to tell her—or anyone else.

Not only had the Big Sister not held a grudge against them for Yunshan Society’s previous intentions, but she had repaid their hostility with kindness, delivering political achievements for her and even her father. This was simply…

Zhu Silin even felt her face flush with heat. Then she suddenly apologized to Liu Yutong.

“Sister Yutong, I’m sorry!”

She had to make it up to her. Since they were doing charity work in her father’s jurisdiction, she couldn’t just stand by. This time, she had to do everything possible to help Sister Yutong succeed—not only to let her father know of Yutong’s goodwill, but also to show the other Yunshan Society members that Yutong truly considered them friends, brothers and sisters.

From now on, everyone had to sincerely acknowledge her as their Big Sister. After all, where could you find such a wonderful Big Sister?

Hearing Zhu Silin’s sudden apology, Liu Yutong was momentarily stunned: “What are you apologizing to me for?”

“It’s nothing.”

Zhu Silin didn’t plan to tell Liu Yutong yet that she would inform her father about the charity work. She wanted to give Yutong a pleasant surprise.

“Sister Yutong, can you tell me what you plan to do for this charity event? I’ve seen people donate money, I’ve seen them donate goods, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone haul emergency supplies like this. It feels so strange.”

Liu Yutong pointed at the continuous mountain ranges outside the window. “Look at BS Province, especially these Bei C areas. The mountains are high and the valleys deep. Many children in these towns only know how to bury their heads in books to escape the mountains. They’ve never even participated in proper outdoor activities. How can that be right? So I thought, why not hold a sports meet?”

Zhu Silin was taken aback, completely unable to follow Liu Yutong’s train of thought: “Huh? A sports meet?”

“Exactly!” Liu Yutong nodded. “I plan to organize a large-scale public welfare sports meet covering impoverished primary and secondary schools in Bei C and several nearby cities. I’ve even thought of a name: the Rainbow Plan Student Aid Sports Meet.”
